This is an inventory. It names no medicine, gives no dose, and tells you nothing about what to use or when.

That is not a limitation we apologise for, it is the design. Medical decisions at sea belong to a qualified practitioner who knows your crew and your voyage, and to the telemedical service you call from the boat. A printed instruction in a document like this one would be read at the worst possible moment, by somebody under pressure, and it would be wrong for most of the people reading it.

What a boat actually lacks is the boring half: a record of what is in the box, when each item expires, who decided the contents in the first place, and what was taken out. That is what this log is.

The item columns in Part II are blank. The headings down the left are container names, where a thing is stowed, not what it is. The contents were never grouped by what they treat, because a therapeutic grouping would itself amount to a suggestion about composition.

Part I records who specified the kit. Model M2 measures the box against that specification and against nothing else. If Part I is blank, that blank is the most useful thing this register will ever tell you.

Every line records who was consulted, on what channel or number, and at what time. Never what the item was taken for. That record matters afterwards, to a doctor ashore, to an insurer, and to the person it happened to.

Days to the next expiry. Coverage against the specification you were given. What expires inside a window you choose: set it to the length of the voyage and you have the list of items that will pass their date while you are away from a pharmacy. The annualised cost of keeping the kit current. Months since each person last trained. And the restock lead time, which has two terms: how long delivery takes, and how long it takes to obtain the authorisation your jurisdiction requires. The second term is the one owners forget.

The coastal owner who sails within reach of a harbour. Help is an hour away, so your kit is modest and your risk is the expiry calendar quietly running out while the box sits unopened for three seasons. Twenty-four lines in date order, checked whenever the first line comes inside your window, is the whole job for you.

The owner on passage, offshore. Part IV before anything else, filled in by each person, in their own hand, ashore. A radio-medical call is a conversation you want to be short, and the information the practitioner needs first is not in the box, it is about the people. Then run the window model against the length of the passage.

The boat with a crew that changes. Personal sheets are per person, not per boat, and that is deliberate. Somebody joining on Friday brings their own allergies, their own treatments and their own policy, and none of it is knowable from a kit inventory. Collect the sheet the same way you collect a passport number.

The charter or delivery skipper. You have to hand over a kit somebody else will rely on, and the specification page is what makes that handover defensible. Who specified it, when, for what voyage profile. Without that line, a full box is an assertion rather than a record.

The owner who inherited the kit with the boat. Expect Part I to be blank, and record that it is. That blank is the finding: nobody currently knows who chose these contents or for what kind of sailing. It is also the exact question to take to a practitioner before the season, which is a far better conversation than the one that starts at sea.
