01In shortA rig at target tension can still be leaning.1 min
A rig at target tension can still be leaning. A sail with hours left can still be dead. A boat can be fast and never know it.
Rig and sail decisions are made on feel more than anything else aboard, because the figures that would settle them were never written down. The Rig and Sails Command Kit is the whole cluster bought at once: what the rig is set to, what the wardrobe has actually done, and what the boat has actually achieved.
What is in the kit
Everything above deck, on one set of wind bands
- Standing Rigging Inspection & Tension Record, twelve positions across six tuning sessions, with gauge serial and conditions logged underneath, 44 pages
- Sail Inventory & Condition Register, twelve sails across six seasons of cumulative hours, with draft depth measured as a share of chord, 42 pages
- Rig Tune & Target Speed Log, instrument calibration first, a settings matrix in bands you define, and a 72-cell polar you fill yourself, 42 pages
02Why the three together beat the three apartA target speed is worthless if the log reads low, so the tune log calibrates before it compares.1 min
A target speed is worthless if the log reads low, so the tune log calibrates before it compares. A settings matrix is worthless without the tension record that says what the rig was actually set to. And a sail that has quietly moved its draft aft will flatten every number in the polar. The three registers share one wind-band definition, so a change in one is readable in the others.
03Where to start, by the sailing you doThe club racer.1 min
The club racer. Calibration, then the settings matrix, then the polar. In that order, because tuning against an instrument you have not checked is how a crew talks itself into a slow setting and keeps it for two seasons.
The cruising owner. Wire inventory and sail hours first. You are not chasing tenths, you are trying to replace things in a planned order and to know what your insurer will ask about the rig's age.
The owner heading offshore. A full tuning session and a wardrobe audit before departure, so that anything that changes on passage is measurable against a dated reference rather than against an impression.
The rule every document in the kit obeys
Not one published tension, service life or target speed anywhere in 128 pages + 9-page Kit Guide. A tension written for a masthead sloop puts a swept fractional rig out of column; a cruising dacron main and a racing membrane have nothing in common; and a published polar is a promise about a bare hull. You transcribe your spar maker's and your loft's own figures, and the models compare you to your own best.

As a kit, the three documents cost less than bought one at a time (the price block on this page works out the exact figures from current prices), and the three share one set of wind bands instead of three.
05What it is notThese documents record and organise.1 min
These documents record and organise. They are not a tuning guide, not sailmaking advice, and they reach no conclusion about the condition of any rig. The rigging inspection pages keep what you can see and photograph strictly separate from what a qualified rigger examined.
Instant download. Your links appear on screen the moment payment clears, and a copy arrives by email, usually within a few minutes. They do not expire.

Questions
Before you buy the Rig & Sails Command Kit
The five questions asked about every document, answered for this kit.
Which file do I open first?
Open the Start here page, then the Kit Guide: it sets the order of work across the three records. Every document and the Kit Guide come in two editions, each in A4 and US Letter. Type in Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is free, or write by hand in GoodNotes, Notability or on paper.
Does it calculate on iPhone or Android?
Yes. In Adobe Acrobat Reader on iPhone or Android every document in the kit calculates as it does on a computer, and the Kit Guide sorts every check by date for you. Entries are saved into the files: no app of ours, no account, no connection.
What does it deliberately not contain?
A tuning guide or sailmaking advice. The three records keep what you can see apart from what a qualified rigger examined, and reach no conclusion about any rig or sail.
Does the kit suit a power boat?
No. The rig, the sails and the polar are for sailing boats only.
A4 or US Letter?
Both, for every file in the kit, in both editions. Choose by the paper you print on: A4 in Australia, New Zealand and Europe, US Letter in the United States and Canada. The pages and fields are the same in each.
